DISCRIMINATION IN BOSTON’S RENTAL MARKET
The undercover housing discrimination testers recorded their experiences in meticulously structured reports.
Client: Suffolk Law Housing Discrimination Testing Program
Goal/Challenge: Had to distill the findings of a complex 60-page report, including complicated data sets, for alumni readers and the national media.
Results: My press release (a successful collaboration with the Boston Foundation), magazine story, and direct media pitches helped land major coverage, including NBC Boston, The Boston Globe (cover story), NPR, Banker & Tradesman, Esquire and ABC News (at 11 minutes).

THE COURT’S CLOSED–SO, HOW DO CITIZENS GAIN ACCESS?
Imagine a woman living with an abusive partner, isolated for months during the pandemic shutdown. Eventually, she goes to a local courthouse to get help, but the doors are locked when she arrives. She waits outside for hours, until a clerk finally comes out with a stack of complex court papers for her to complete on her own.
Client: Suffolk Law’s Legal Innovation & Technology Lab
Goal/Challenge: Find a way to spread public awareness of a technical topic–the Lab’s TurboTax-style court form smartphone app.
Results: My direct pitch to reporters, press release, and alumni magazine article helped Suffolk’s innovation lab earn significant media coverage (including The Chronicle of Higher Education, The Boston Globe, Telemundo, and NBC-Boston).

TAKING ON MONSTER
While people tend to associate Monster Energy Drink with edgy, extreme sports enthusiasts, many critics call them a trademark bully.
Client: Suffolk Law Intellectual Property Clinic
Goal/Challenge: Students won a complex patent law case against Monster Energy Drink. I sought media coverage about the victory.
Results: I pitched the story successfully to The Washington Post after researching Monster Energy’s history as a trademark bully. My magazine stories, press releases, and pitches about clinic students’ legal victories over Nautica and audio equipment giant Music Tribe, landed the clinic in Bloomberg (bottom of page), The Boston Globe, and The Seattle Times.
